Hmm

Funny one this, I think it's like anything, some good some bad.

I find the biggest problem with the manchester agencies is a lot of the time, there is no job!! I know this from 2 very close friends who get hounded to obtain a database of potential tradesmen. This in turn is what they use to bid for labour contracts on the local building sites or council contracts in the area.

Here in lies the problem, loads of lads out of work, all dying to get back on the tools and all the advertised work is mainly agency, and they never hear a thing back, because there is no job there, they are using your details to obtain the work.............this I think is a really dark side to recruitment and should be stopped. There is no harm in them advertising "bidding for contract, tradesmen needed for registration" they could possibly get more than enough people to win the contract etc.

This may just be a Manchester habbit, but I doubt it very much.

Also I do know that with the extra tradesmen seeking work, some very desperate, that a contract equal to around £9 per sq meter of skimming is now being punted by an agency at £1.20p a sq meter, with lads queing up outside the door to register, while the agency make an absolute fortune, knowing anyone who snubs the rate, will be pushed out of the way by another twenty lads dying to do it for that. They are making an absolute fortune and taking the downturn for us, as a major go ahead to rip people off.

The comments in the this thread really sadden me but I can't say that I don't agree with many of them.

It doesn't make my job any easier when there are so many recruitment consultants out there to make a fast buck. Whatever happened to looking after your customers, building relationships and winning repeat business as a respected service provider?

It seems that many recruiters out their are no more than poorly trained telesales people rather than "recruitment consultants". For those that have had poor experiences, and have had to put up with unprofessional tactics, I apologise and am dissapointed that this is your experience.

The truth is that there are many recruitment consultants who believe in doing a good job in an ethical manner and provide real value. Unfortunately there are a lot of poorly trained, inexperienced and heavily targetted people in the industry who spoil it for the rest of us and give us all a bad reputation.
