In our role as CDM Coordinators we are working daily with Architects and Engineers who are very knowledgeable about the CDM Regulations 2007 and undertaken their duties in a professional manner.  Today though we were contacted to jump in on a project that had started without regard for the CDM Regulations.  The client was a "one off" client who could not have been expected to know his way around the Regs.  Although he has appointed an Architect who has a legal duty to advise the client accordingly about CDM.  However the Architect had not done so because the works "did not involve spending over £500,000"!  As CDM 2007 is by some distance the most important legislation when undertaking construction work I still can't believe some designers are out there without even the most basic knowledge.  A designer is often the first person a client will call about a project and the designer should be able to advise the client about what the clients duties are in relation to CDM 2007.  The failure of a designer to do so has in the past resulted in a prosecution and so designers who are not aware of their own duties need to sharpen up their act on the Regs.  Eurosafe UK are more than happy to discuss any concerns a designer may have relating to CDM 2007.
